Join is for an Evening Reception, Newcastle, 16 March 2023

We are a non-partisan organisation that provides an opportunity for key decision makers to meet to discuss the future of the North East economy. Since our inception in 2000 we have maintained support from key stakeholders across the North East with events addressed by leading national politicians and business leaders.

Adam Boulton, Journalist, Broadcaster and Times Radio Presenter will address the reception and Government Minister, Anne Marie-Trevelyan MP will give a vote of thanks. The reception will also hear NEEF Chair, Alan Donnelly, outline our programme of events for 2023/24.

We’ve successfully attracted a hugely impressive range of speakers from the political and business community, regionally and nationally. Themes have included:

Energy
North East England is the most energy intensive region in the UK but the region faces high levels of fuel poverty. At the same time, the region is building world leading energy industries, generating many of the innovations that will power the next decades. The challenge for the region is to lead the green innovation revolution.

Environment
The environment of the region has been transformed over the last three decades. Our cities are displaying vibrancy and vitality. Our future development will lead to new demands on our environment but there is a risk that certain communities may become excluded from overall regional prosperity.

Transport
The region has a transport system which is largely effective but with a number of specific weak points. There is a need for investment but this is often not forthcoming because of a perception that our problems are not as great as those elsewhere.
