The future of 21st Century car safety – the North East leading in Europe and the World

Wednesday, January 27th, 2016

Dear Colleague

I’m delighted to invite you to a special event to celebrate the presentation of the Global NCAP award to the University of Sunderland.

We’ll be joined by David Ward, Global NCAP’s Secretary General, who will be talking about the important work undertaken by the North East Automotive sector in relation to improving road safety standards across Europe.

Former MEP Alan Donnelly received the Global NCAP award in July for his work on car safety standards legislation, which have since become the global standard on crash testing.

Alan will be formally presenting his award to the University of Sunderland in recognition of their research in Graphene, which could develop the technologies for the next generation of vehicle safety – allowing cars to be lighter and greener, without compromising safety.

I’d be pleased if you could join me on Friday, 12th February, 12noon, at the National Glass Centre, for the presentation and lunch.

To secure your place please RSVP to events@sunderland.ac.uk by 5th February.

Yours sincerely

Iain Malcolm

Patrick Diamond’s Devolution Report

Monday, August 10th, 2015

Dear Colleague,

As part of the on-going discussions within the Region, as to whether we should have an elected Mayor for the North East, please find below a link to  a discussion paper prepared by Patrick Diamond.

The Paper, whilst not endorsing an elected-Mayor model, makes clear that the Region should consider the formation of an indirectly Regional Chamber to scrutinise the work not only of the Mayor, but also the Combined Authority and NE LEP.

Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP Addresses the Forum, Thurs 26th February, Sage Gateshead

Wednesday, February 11th, 2015

Dear Colleague

As part of our programme of events, I am delighted to advise that the Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP, the former Chancellor, has agreed to address a lunchtime seminar on behalf of the North East Economic Forum.

As the Chair of the “Better Together” campaign, Alistair was at the forefront of the NO to Independence campaign in Scotland but helped negotiate the devolving of more powers and responsibilities to Scotland. His insight into how he achieved this will be extremely relevant as the North East of England continues its own drive for more devolved powers to the region.

The event shall be held in the Barbour room and a buffet lunch will be served from 11.45 am on the foyer outside Hall Two. When you arrive at the Sage head up to the 1st floor, outside Hall 2 where we will have a registration desk set up.  The address will commence at 12.30 in the Barbour room.

Rachel Reeves MP Address 17th October Wynyard Rooms

Monday, October 13th, 2014

As part of the North East Economic Forums programme of events, I am delighted to invite you to join me at an event with Rachel Reeves MP, Shadow Secretary of State at the DWP on 17th October at the Wynyard Rooms.

PLEASE NOTE THE EVENT IS NOT AT WYNYARD HALL AS PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED.

Rachel Reeves recently said:

“There will be tough decisions on resources and priorities for the next Labour government. But we will also target the deeper causes of rising welfare spending by building a recovery that leaves no one behind.

That’s how we ensure a system that is fair and affordable, so we can keep up the fight against child and pensioner poverty, upholding and renewing the principles our welfare state was built on: responsibilities and opportunities for all who can work; dignity for those who cannot; hard work and contribution recognised and rewarded.”

This NEEF event will give Rachel an opportunity to expand upon remit further.

The event starts at 2pm and will last until 3.30 pm at the Londonderry Room at Wynyard Rooms, Wynyard Park, TS22 5TB. Click here for a map.

I hope you will be able to join me. Please RSVP by CLICKING HERE ASAP.
