Lunchtime Seminar with Sir Keir Starmer

As part of our series of lunchtime seminars, I am delighted that Sir Keir Starmer, QC., MP., Shadow Brexit Secretary, has agreed to address the North East Economic Forum. You can download a copy of his CV for your information.

The lunchtime seminar will give senior regional stakeholders an opportunity to discuss the ongoing Brexit negotiations, the impact of Brexit (both positive and negative) on the North East and to discuss Labour’s position with their senior Brexit spokesperson.

The event shall take place on Friday 16th November 2018 12noon at The Sage, Gateshead Quays.

I am also pleased that Richard Moss, the BBCs Political Editor for the North East and Cumbria has agreed to Chair a question and answer session. The event will conclude no later than 1.45pm.

A buffet lunch will be available before the seminar.

NEEF Event – Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP Address – 11th October

We are delighted to announce the Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP has agreed to address the forum on Friday 11th October 2013 from 12.15pm – 2pm. The event will be held at the River Terrace, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead.
The event will commence with a buffet lunch followed by a Question and Answer session Chaired by Brian Aitken, the Editor of the Journal newspaper.

Annual Dinner 13th November 2012

We are delighted to invite you to attend the 2012 Annual Dinner of the North East Economic Forum.

The dinner will be held on Tuesday 13th November 2012 at the Gosforth Park Hotel commencing with a drinks reception at 7pm followed by dinner at 7.30pm.

Our guest of honour will be the Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP, the Scottish First Minister.

In the week that it has been announced that a deal has been reach between the UK and Scottish Governments that delivers a legally binding referendum in 2014 on the issue of Scottish independence, we are pleased that the Scottish First Minister has accepted our invitation to use NEEF as a platform to discuss with the region the implications and potential benefits of Scottish independence for the North East of England. The First Ministers visit also follows on from the successful NEEF conference at which his External Affairs Minister, Fiona Hyslop MSP addressed delegates.

Rt Hon David Willetts Visits the Region

NEEF Annual Conference 2012

The Annual North East Economic Forum conference was held on Thursday 1st March 2012, 8.30am – 2pm at GatesheadNewcastle Hilton.

This was the first conference since the General Election and gave key regional stakeholders from across the region the opportunity to discuss the emerging policy agenda with emphasis on how we can re-balance the regions economy.

Key speakers included Lord Heseltine, Chair of the Governments Regional Growth Fund, Fiona Hyslop MSP, the Scottish Governments External Affairs Minister and H. E. Ambassador Liu Xiaoming the UK Chinese Ambassador.

Adam Boulton the Sky News Politicial Editor Chaired this half-day event which concluded with lunch.

Launch of the new North East Sustainable Resources Management Plan

Launch of the new North East Sustainable Resources Management Plan for the region, hosted by the North East Sustainable Resources Board, took place on 27th January 2012.

The Plan sets out key evidence as to why we need to make better use of our valuable resources and the projects they propose to support to achieve this. The Plan will show the scope for how businesses can reduce costs and enhance their competitiveness by using resources more sustainably, further it will demonstrate the opportunities for new industries through more sustainable use of waste and outline how the North East is leading the country in this strategy.

Visits the North East Economic Forum on 9th June 2011

“The Forum welcomed the Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to the Region on the 9th June 2011.

During his visit to the Region, the Minister visited South Tyneside to undetake the “Topping Off” ceremony for the new BT Building which has been constructed at Harton Staithes, in addition he visited NIssan and met with leading figures from the North Eastern LEP and the Tees Valley LEP.

The NEEF Annual Dinner was attended by over 150 key regional stakeholders – Sandy Anderson Chair of the Tees Valley LEP, welcomed guests on behalf of the Dinner sponsors, Prof Graham Henderson CBE, Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor of Teesside University introduced the Secretary of State and Mayor Linda Arkley of North Tyneside Council gave a vote of thanks. The Question and Answer session was Chaired by Brian Aitken, Editor of the Journal newspaper.

North East Transport Futures

Annual Conference 2010

The North East Economic Forum Annual Conference took place on 18th February 2010.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP and Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP were two of many to address a regional audience on a Low Carbon Economy.
